With three young children and a home located on a cul-de-sac in a charming neighborhood in Atlanta, Georgia, Molly and Heath Milligan are no strangers to entertaining. And while their ranch home already offered plenty of style, it also presented a few logistic challenges.

“As the clients lived in the home, they realized that they needed another seating area in order to accommodate children and adults,” says designer Anna Wooten Loggins, personal friend of the Milligans and owner of A. Wooten Interiors, who was pulled in to address the issues. The team ended up rearranging the house, transforming the existing breakfast room into a sunroom right off the family space. The light-filled corner is now one of the home’s most appealing spots, and the décor inspiration sprang from a single piece.

“We actually started with the sofa,” says Anna Wooten. After finding it at an estate sale in a pink-and-green silk stripe, the team re-covered the piece in a linen stripe and painted the frame a glossy white. The homeowners fell in love with a coral velvet that was perfect for the accompanying chairs, “and everything else fell into place from there,” the designer adds.

The coral hues transition into teals and turquoises across the threshold into the family room, but as visitors step into the formal living room, they are greeted with a wave of warmth centered on a burled-wood waterfall coffee table. “The coffee table color was inspiration for the pillow fabrics,” Anna Wooten says. “We pulled the copper velvet pillows onto the sofa to balance that deep warm color.”

The space is ideally located just off the new breakfast room, which showcases a set of floral prints that Anna Wooten matted and paired with the complementary Heather Chadduck fabric on the drapes. Wicker dining chairs offset the smoky blue of the walls with warm natural tones and texture, drawing attention to a custom tablecloth that contrasts with the rest of the palette. “I found the floral fabric and fell in love with the colors and pattern for the room,” Anna Wooten says. Another detail she considers special, the white dishes atop the tablecloth were handmade in Italy by Provvista Designs.

In the end, the collaboration between friends did far more than create a better layout for entertaining. With three separate living spaces, each layered in cozy hues and textures, and a breakfast room that serves up plenty of charm, the redesign updated this family home in a way that made it even more inviting—for the Milligans and their guests alike.
