Shades of pink, blue, and green run rampant throughout Alieta Casey’s home, a physical embodiment of spring. Unafraid of a pop of color and playing with pattern, she transformed her abode into a wallpapered haven and created an example of how to go bold while keeping the home grounded.
“Even though I love color and had done colors in different rooms, I was not prepared for how [wallpapering] changed the whole vibe,” Alieta says. “It was fun, even for my family.” Although she is not an interior designer by trade, growing up with an artistic mother helped her find this passion. Saturdays in her childhood were spent hunting for unique pieces and fun antiques. These treasures helped guide her own journey with designing her home, something she has grown to enjoy immensely.

Alieta and her husband, Logan, built this Craftsman-style home in Hoover, Alabama, ten years ago. “I love change, so we’ve probably touched every room since then,” she says. A vacation in Palm Beach influenced many of her design choices in the home. Dashes of kelly green, fuchsia, and cobalt infuse the abode with striking color, while gold accents, natural wood tones, and a neutral shade of peppercorn gray keep it feeling casual.

Entering the home through a rosy blush door, guests are welcomed with a statement dining room. “The dining room was the first big wallpaper project we did,” Alieta says. “Our big concrete-and-wood table was something I had to consider when choosing the wallpaper.” A bold black-and-gold floral motif graces the walls, while an oversize pendant light hangs above the table, creating a moody tableau.

“Hanging wallpaper is not my skill set, but I love the look of it,” homeowner Alieta Casey says. She credits friend and local designer Amanda Hutton Sanderson of Hutton & Ray Interior Design with recommending some professional services to ensure it was installed flawlessly. “The measuring [for wallpaper] is where people get tripped up,” she says. “It’s so confusing, so I left it to the professionals.”
An open floor plan means entertaining with ease, as visitors can easily flow from room to room. Next to the dining area, the kitchen and living room breathe fresh air into the abode. “Our living room overlooks a lake,” Alieta says. “So, I thought, since this is such a cheerful view, we need to have more cheerful wallpaper in here.” Blue and white cloak the living room, while the adjoining kitchen remains neutral, a complement to the bolder area. Dots of green and pink make the spaces feel cohesive, from drink tables and credenzas to ginger jars and candlesticks.

The kitchen’s neutral tones allow the brighter rooms to stand out while complementing the black-and-gold dining room. Black light fixtures over the island coordinate with the cabinet door pulls, while gold accents on the refrigerator and blue-and-white centerpieces emphasize the adjoining dining area and living room. “I love that [the kitchen] ties it all together,” Alieta says. “It helps the flow between rooms.”

For the primary bedroom, a canopy bed sits at the center of a calm oasis. Opting for a more soothing, relaxed pattern on the walls, Alieta created a retreat that shines with bright sunlight and accents of pastel pink. She advises starting with pastels if someone feels afraid to add color to their home. “You can take more color when it’s a pastel, because it’s a little less overwhelming,” she notes. “It’s all about balance.”
Special touches make the home feel more tailored to a family. For Alieta, memories of her and her husband’s love story are important moments displayed throughout. A round window from their collegiate alma mater is showcased in their living room. A reminder of their engagement, a large gilded mirror hangs in the dining room, gifted by the owners of the house where Logan popped the question.

“It’s really important to me and our family that we would have a warm, welcoming environment here at our home,” she says, “not just for our family, but also for friends to come over, take their shoes off, and stay a while.”
