Any opportunity to host family or friends at your table can be a gift, but there’s something extra special about get-togethers—big or small—around Christmastime. Seasonal gatherings are the perfect time to put your dining room and rarely seen fine china on display.

Take color cues from your tree’s ribbon and baubles as you decorate the table. A soft neutral linen makes for a great base layer when topped with a variety of warm textures, colors, and patterns. A classic green-and-red motif feels cozy and inviting.

Skip the formal floral arrangement in favor of freshly clipped greenery and dried orange slices for a more casual centerpiece. This type of natural, fragrant touch is quintessential cottage style. For an additional layer, a collection of taper and pillar candles offers just the right height and interest—and there are few things more magical than the glow of a candlelit Christmas moment.

Dried orange slices can be a fragrant addition to your holiday table. They also look stunning when strung together on ribbon or string to create a natural garland. Purchase them online or, for a fun Christmas activity, make them in your own cottage kitchen.

For a special treat, prepare a nearby sideboard or buffet for an after-dinner cup of coffee, cocoa, or cider. Precious cups and saucers make the experience that much more memorable. Don’t forget to layer in a few elements—like greenery or oranges—to help visually connect the side presentation to your tablescape.
