The garden has evolved since the first perennials were inserted upon arrival. It has gained shrubs to provide height and perform when the perennials are pausing. In a fit of energy a couple of years ago, I dug up the front lawn and carpeted it with spring bulbs and herbs instead. These additions weren’t frugal from a time versus resources standpoint, but they make my soul swell, especially in spring.
