Holiday Hospitality: Tin Cottage

This Tennessee shop welcomes guests with the art of hospitality.

In the heart of the South hospitality reigns supreme. And no place showcases the art of hospitality quite like Franklin, Tennessee’s, Tin Cottage. What appears to be a modest cottage from the outside—complete with a white picket fence—is in fact a charming home and gift shop. Shop owner Marianne DeMeyers (pictured above) and manager Birdie Bell welcome shoppers into the cottage they’ve filled with thoughtful, well-curated interior and gift items that are sure to excite shoppers of all ages.

“Tin Cottage is the conceptualization of bringing back the art of hospitality,” Marianne says. “[It’s about] finding your style and inviting everyone over to put down their phones and share a story or experience.”

Tin Cottage first launched in 1998 to provide locals with an authentic destination for home, table, and gift items. In 2014, they reopened with a merchandise mix largely sourced from Middle Tennessee and Southern artisans.

“The aesthetic we go for is kind of an Americana primitive look,” Birdie says, noting they like to focus on the latest trends. Offering a large variety of locally sourced products—from stationery and candles to kitchenware, barware, and seasonal gifts and décor—Tin Cottage has something for everyone on your list. This season you’ll find a merry mix of woodland accents and touches of glamour.

And most importantly you’ll find Tin Cottage to truly be a source of hospitality both in the products they offer and their customer service. “Tin Cottage is the place for great customer service,” Birdie says. “We really want to make a personal connection with people who come through our doors. When you leave Tin Cottage you’re not just another customer, you’re a friend.”

Tin Cottage provides inspiration and style ideas the moment you walk through the door. From artful displays and holiday tablescapes to fully bedecked trees with a Southern flair, Tin Cottage allows shoppers to experience the products in a way that’s both fun and creative.
